Matthew Lloyd: Slinky ideas

I had a go at modelling the slinky yesterday and experimented with the for of the utensils area and adding rails to keep plates straight. I think that having two thin, close rails along the base will help keep the plates sturdy whilst not taking away from the slinky look too much.

These are two more ideas for a simplified family movie night container as well as the slinky dish rack.

 The module can attach to any of the 3 free sides of the module placed before it. the set would have to be picked up by the first module placed, this will then hold the weight of the others. although I rendered this with frosted colours I think it could also look good with each module being a different colour.

 Each module clips over the one before in the same way as the other design. the module can clip on anywhere on the longest side so can produce a more jumbled shape than that shown too. again, I think this could also look good with each module as a different colour.

I rendered this as chrome wire and i think that suits it, I also think separating the plate rack from the utensil cup simplifies the design nicely to create 2 matching products.

Feedback from 10/14/13

We got feedback in class to basically make 3D models of what we pursue. We have to narrow it down to 3 final concepts that we would ideally like to present to umbra. 

1. rethink the slinky at is most SIMPLE form. would a slinky really curl up to make a cup? maybe its a metal cup seperate?

2. model knife shelf. poke in real knives....what's actually feasible

3. popcorn container - 3D models. simplify. think about form. less stylization
